Sporting CP Dominates Kairat in Champions League
First Champions League match with a win!
Sporting CP started their Champions League campaign in style, dominating Kairat Almaty with an impressive 4–1 victory at the Estádio José Alvalade. The first half was competitive, but Sporting broke the deadlock just before halftime with a curling strike from Francisco Trincão. In the second half, the team exploded with three goals in quick succession: Trincão scored again, followed by a low-driven strike from Alisson Santos, and a spectacular solo effort from Geovany Quenda. Kairat Almaty managed a late consolation through Edmilson Filho, but it couldn’t stop Sporting’s dominant performance. Young goalkeeper Sherkhan Kalmurza also made headlines by saving a first-half penalty, becoming the youngest player to do so in a Champions League debut. Overall, Sporting controlled possession, created numerous chances, and showed the quality and depth of their squad.
