Estádio José Alvalade
Here you will get to know our stadium better, along with its history!
The Estádio José Alvalade, located in Lisbon, is much more than just a football stadium — it’s the heart and soul of Sporting Clube de Portugal. Officially opened on August 6, 2003, this modern arena replaced the old Alvalade, which had served as Sporting’s home since 1956. With a capacity of 50,095 spectators, it stands as one of the most iconic and passionate venues in European football.
Designed by architect Tomás Taveira, the stadium is known for its colorful seats and distinctive modern style, symbolizing the club’s diversity, energy, and vibrant spirit. It was one of the main venues of UEFA Euro 2004, hosting several key matches of the tournament.
Beyond football, José Alvalade Stadium is part of a larger complex known as Alvalade XXI, which includes the club museum, offices, sports pavilions, and the official Sporting store. The atmosphere on match days is electric — fans fill the stands with green and white, singing, waving flags, and creating an unforgettable experience for anyone lucky enough to witness it.
For Sporting fans, “Alvalade” is more than a stadium, it’s a symbol of pride, history, and identity. Every goal, every victory, and every chant echoes through its walls, celebrating more than a century of passion for the green and white.
