Maxi Araujo is Lion
New signing from Uruguay
Maxi Araújo is officially a Sporting player. The winger/forward arrived in Lisbon last Sunday and has just been confirmed as the Lions’ new signing, coming from Toluca. On his first European adventure, the Uruguayan is protected by a release clause of 80 million euros. The deal was completed for around 14 million euros for the full transfer of his rights.
The 24-year-old signed until 2029, in another negotiation between the two clubs. In this transfer window, it is worth remembering, Paulinho went the other way and moved to the Mexican club. Maxi is a 14-time international, being a trusted player under Marcelo Bielsa in the renewal of the Uruguayan national team. He was also present at the last Copa América.
He becomes the eighth Uruguayan to wear Sporting’s shirt and will have Franco Israel, his national team teammate, as a familiar face in the squad.
