Sporting Clube de Portugal have been crowned Portuguese football champions this Sunday, with two rounds still left to play in the Liga Portugal.

Three years after their last title, the Lions led by Rúben Amorim secured their 24th national championship, reaching an unreachable total of 84 points, eight more than the second-placed team. Sporting could still reach 90 points if they win their final two matches, which would break the current record of 86.

The team from Alvalade took the lead in the league on matchday six, and although they briefly lost it on matchday eleven, they reclaimed the top spot immediately in the following game. From then on, they remained in first place, except for the short period when they had one game in hand due to the postponed fixture against Famalicão.

In total, the Lions have recorded 27 wins, three draws, and two losses, winning all 16 home matches played at the Estádio José Alvalade so far. The team has been praised for its solid defensive structure, creative midfield play, and clinical finishing, which proved decisive in tight matches against rivals such as Porto and Benfica.

Key players like Viktor Gyökeres, whose pace and scoring ability have been crucial throughout the season, and João Palhinha, who dominated the midfield, have been recognized by fans and analysts alike. The team’s consistency, coupled with Rúben Amorim’s tactical approach, has made Sporting one of the most formidable sides in recent Portuguese football history.

This triumph also holds emotional significance for the supporters, as the club celebrates not only the points but the passion, resilience, and dedication shown by the squad throughout the season. Fans in Lisbon and around the country have already begun celebrating, with festivities expected to continue after the final matches. Sporting’s 24th title reaffirms their status as one of Portugal’s most successful and historic clubs, setting high expectations for the next season both domestically and in European competitions.
