Zeno Debast is Lion
New signing from Belgium
It’s official: Zeno Debast is a Sporting player. The Belgian international has signed a contract valid for five seasons, tying him to the Lions until June 2029. The confirmation was made through Sporting TV, officially welcoming Debast to the Portuguese giants. The young defender will wear the number 6 shirt and comes with a release clause set at 80 million euros, reflecting the club’s confidence in his potential and long-term value.
Sporting has secured the 19-year-old from Anderlecht for a base fee of 15.5 million euros, with the possibility of an additional 5.5 million euros in bonuses if certain sporting objectives are met. This investment highlights the club’s strategy of combining young talent with international experience, aiming to build a squad capable of competing for domestic and European titles.
Zeno Debast, who has been a regular in the Belgian youth and senior national team setups, brings both versatility and composure to the defensive line. Primarily a centre-back, he can also play as a right-back when required, offering tactical flexibility for the manager. Known for his intelligent positioning, calmness under pressure, and ability to build play from the back, Debast is seen as a modern defender ready to make an impact in the Liga Portugal.
Speaking to Sporting media, Debast expressed his excitement about joining the Lions: he highlighted the ambition of the club, the passionate fanbase at Estádio José Alvalade, and the opportunity to compete at the highest level in Portugal and Europe. His adaptation to Portuguese football will be watched closely, but his experience at Anderlecht and with Belgium’s national teams provides a solid foundation for a smooth transition.
With this signing, Sporting continues to reinforce its defensive options, complementing the already talented squad with a young, promising, and internationally experienced player. Debast’s arrival not only strengthens the backline but also reflects Sporting’s commitment to long-term planning and competitiveness.
